8 Health and Wellness Resolutions You’ll Want to Keep | Pure Wellness

This is the time of year when many of us decide to make unrealistic New Year’s resolutions that we’ll probably forget about by February.  Whether it’s running on a treadmill everyday or adopting the latest fad diet, these resolutions are not only ineffective but they can also feel like punishment.

Rather than forcing yourself into harsh and unenjoyable commitments this year, try some of these holistic resolutions that will help you feel better, have more energy and be at your best in 2019!

Connect with friends and family.  Today’s fast-paced world often leaves us with little time for the ones who matter most. Make regular phone calls to a family member you don’t see very often or reach out to a friend who’s fallen out of touch.

Make sleep a priority. It can be difficult to make time for sleep even though it’s one of the most important things you can do for your health.  Establish a regular sleep routine and commit to an earlier bedtime this year.

Take time out.  Whether it’s through meditation, journaling or listening to music, devote at least a small part of every day to unplugging and relaxing.  By taking a little time away from your busy schedule, you’ll feel more focused and energized throughout the day.

Reduce caffeine and alcohol. Many of us enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, even though these indulgences really aren’t good for your health. Cutting back on the amount of alcohol and caffeine you consume will help you sleep better and have more energy in the long run.

Eat more.  Yes, you read that right!  Instead of looking at food as a number of calories, focus on the nutritional value of food as fuel for your body.  By eating more whole, natural foods, you’ll lose weight and actually enjoy your food while you’re doing it.

Have fun staying active.  Regular exercise is important but it doesn’t have to happen in a gym.  From gardening to recreational sports, everyone should be able to find a physical activity for their fitness level that they also happen to enjoy.

Travel more.  Visiting a different city, town or country is the perfect way to break up your routine and experience life from a different perspective.  Even if you just take a weekend away or spend an afternoon driving around an unfamiliar area, make this the year you branch out and explore more often.

Visit your doctor.  When was the last time you scheduled a regular check-up?  Annual doctor visits help you stay on top of your health and take a proactive approach to wellness.
