Like many aspects of 2020, New Year’s Eve just won’t be the same this year. The large parties and ball drop ceremonies are out and many of us will be ringing in this new year at home. But there are still plenty of ways you can make your New Year’s Eve celebration feel special in the age of social distancing. Try these tips to help make New Year’s Eve a night to remember as we all look forward to 2021!
Decorate. You may not be having guests, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create a celebratory atmosphere with New Year’s Eve balloons, banners and decor. Go all out and do more than you typically would to help enhance your family’s holiday spirit.
Dress up. Many of us working from home have gotten used to dressing comfortably during the week but putting on a nice outfit and doing your hair and makeup can help the occasion feel special. Don’t forget the hats, crowns, novelty glasses and other props!
Enjoy festive food and drinks. Create an appetizer spread or a dessert bar. Try out a new specialty cocktail for the celebration. Without guests to entertain, your household can indulge in an especially generous feast this year!
Get your family involved with board games, crafts or a movie night. You can still take in all of the usual entertainment on TV or online and watch the ball drop virtually.
Take photos. Set up a classic “photo booth” wall and send out plenty of pictures of your family enjoying the evening. With everyone social distancing, sharing photos will be appreciated more than ever.
Raise a virtual toast. We may not all be able to be together in person at midnight but we can still lift a glass and ring in the new year remotely. Plan a time when everyone can join a group call or video meeting and send out your holiday wishes to friends and family.
Pop confetti at midnight and set off the noisemakers and sparklers. Sure, it makes a mess but the clean-up will be worth it to end 2020 on a high note!
