Cold Weather Packing Tips for Travelers | Pure Wellness

Knowing what to pack can be tricky, especially when you’re traveling to a colder climate. When space in your luggage is limited, you want to feel confident that you’re making the most of the room you have without compromising warmth and comfort.  We’ve put together some of the best cold weather packing tips we’ve heard to help you bring just what you’ll need.

Wear your heaviest items.  If the weather will be truly cold, there are certain items you’re going to need like a winter coat, boots and a heavy sweater.  Make room in your suitcase by wearing them while you travel since you can always remove them after you’re seated.

Dress in layers.  This classic winter weather advice is especially useful when packing.  Multiple, lighter layers will typically keep you just as warm as a bulky sweater and snow pants, which take up too much room in your bag.

Choose thermal underwear.  It’s lightweight, easy to pack and will really make a difference when the temperature drops.  For space-saving items that keep you warm, thermal tops and bottoms offer a lot of bang for your buck.

Limit your number of sweaters.  These items tend to take up the most space in your luggage so think about how many you really need.  One or two sweaters for a particular occasion or an especially cold day is often enough.

Make boots your shoes.  When you’re really pressed for space, bringing just one pair of shoes (and wearing them when you travel) is ideal. Versatile dress boots are a great choice since they can work for both indoor and outdoor activities.

Don’t forget the accessories.  Hats, gloves and scarfs aren’t extras when it’s freezing outside.  These small items do a lot to help keep you warm and comfortable so make the effort to save room for them.

Remember to protect your skin. You’re likely to be surprised by how quickly your lips, hands and face dry out in a colder climate.  Be sure to pack lip balm, moisturizer, lotion and other skin care products to help you stay comfortable during your trip.
