Valentine’s Day is the time of year when we focus on showing our loved ones how much we appreciate and care about them.  It is also a great time to focus on the love we show ourselves.

So in addition to loving others this Valentine’s Day, let’s also practice some self-love!  Here are a few tips to help you improve your life and feel good about yourself all year long.

Take care of yourself.  Much as we try to maintain our diet and exercise routines, the stress of daily life can sometimes lead us to neglect our mind and body.  Eat food that nourishes you and make time for physical activity you truly enjoy.

Surround yourself with positive people.  If someone in your life makes you feel less than amazing you could minimize the time you spend with them.  Seek out relationships that add happiness to your life rather than those you think you ought to have.

Learn to say no.  This small but powerful word gives you the ability to set boundaries and take control of your life.  When you’re able to say no, you make yourself and your own time your top priority.

Stop comparing yourself to others.  Success should be measured by our own standards and not those of people around us.  You’ll see yourself in a positive light and will appreciate what you have when you evaluate your life on your own terms.

Celebrate your wins.  Big or small, take the time to pat yourself on the back when things are going well.  By acknowledging your own successes, you’ll see how positive your life really is and will feel grateful for what you’ve accomplished.

Be patient with yourself.  Life is a marathon, not a sprint.  Forgive yourself when you make a mistake or fall short and recognize that growth and improvement can be slow.
