Stress-Free Tips for Holiday Travel

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner but that means it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming holiday travel season.  This can be a stressful time of year so you want to make sure your travel experience is as simple, easy and comfortable as possible. Whether you’re traveling by car, plane or anything in between, here are some tips to make your trip stress-free and enjoyable.

Pack wisely.  It’s a good idea to pack light but don’t skip the extra comforts that will keep you feeling relaxed and refreshed.  Create a travel wellness kit that includes your favorites like cleansing wipes, a toothbrush, blanket and herbal tea.  Don’t forget to carry a change of clothes, medications and other essentials with you in case you need them.

Eat well.  Fast food and convenience items are not only bad for your health, they can also cause fatigue and discomfort.  Bring your own healthy snacks with you and take the time to stop for a full, nutritious meal.

Ship your gifts. Sending presents ahead of time reduces the amount you need to pack and eliminates the hassle and stress of carrying these items with you.  Be sure to put packages in the mail early during the holiday season so you’ll feel confident knowing they’ve arrived before you leave.

Make car travel fun. Even long car rides don’t have to be boring and monotonous.  Create a great playlist that might include your favorite holiday music.  Bring games and activities to keep kids occupied. Stop frequently for stretch breaks or to visit attractions to prevent yourself from feeling rushed.

Bring plenty of entertainment.  This might include books, magazines, puzzles or movies and TV shows you’ve downloaded. It’s a good idea to bring more than you think you need so you’ll have options, especially if there is a delay.

Allow extra time.  It might sound simple but one of the best things you can do to reduce travel stress is to leave early, give yourself plenty of time and plan for delays.  Feeling rushed is an instant stress-inducer but if you’re prepared and arrive ahead of time, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the trip.
