Tips for A Safe 4th of July During COVID-19 | Pure Wellness

We’re excited for the 4th of July celebration this weekend even though things may not look the same as they have in previous years.  It’s still a great idea to get outside and enjoy the holiday as long as you do so safely!  Use these tips to help ensure you have a healthy and happy 4th of July this year.

Maintain social distance.  This can be difficult during events with family and friends but remaining six feet apart from others remains the guideline for public spaces.  Outdoor gatherings such as barbecues and picnics make this easier to do when the weather is nice.  Limit your party to a small number of family and friends to further reduce the possibility of transmission.

Wear a mask.  The number one thing you can do to prevent the spread of the virus is to wear a mask in public.  It’s not about your personal preference; it’s about the health and safety of everyone around you.  Of course you’ll need to remove your mask while eating or drinking but try to keep it on as much as possible.

Stay home if you’re sick.  This might go without saying but it is more important than ever to avoid public areas when you’re not feeling well.  Many people who test positive for Covid-19 exhibit few or no symptoms so if there’s a chance you could be sick, it’s best to skip the festivities this year.

Watch fireworks safely.  You won’t see large crowds gathered for fireworks this year but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the display.  Some areas will still host professional fireworks shows that can be viewed from a distance so look for information about this in your local area.  Televised shows, which can be quite impressive, are another safe viewing option.

Follow home fireworks laws.  Many people have been adopting a DIY attitude and creating their own fireworks displays this year.  That’s great, provided that fireworks are legal where you live and you use them in a safe and responsible way.  Check for restrictions in your city and state and be sure to read safety guidelines before using fireworks on your own.
