Let’s face it.  No matter how nice the hotel gym is, sometimes you’d rather be doing something else.  That’s ok!  Fitness is more than just lifting weights and running on a treadmill.  Whether you’re on vacation or a business trip, here are some easy ways to stay active when you travel.

Walk and bike when you can.  Instead of renting a car or using a ride sharing app, get active by walking or biking to where you’re going.  This is also a great way to experience a city or neighborhood up-close.

Look for playgrounds.  They’re everywhere and they make great facilities for staying fit.  You’ll find plenty of exercises and workout programs you can do at a playground by searching online.

Use the hotel pool, which sounds a lot more fun than sweating in the gym!  You can swim laps but there are also a lot of other ways to exercise and stay active in the pool.

Try bodyweight exercises.  You don’t need weights and fancy machines to get in a great workout.  Pushups, planks and lunges are just a few exercises you can do anywhere you have a little floor space.

Pack some light exercise equipment.  If you want to take travel exercise to the next level, bring along your own workout gear. Resistance bands and a stability ball don’t weigh much or take up a lot of room in your luggage.

Practice yoga and stretching.  Mindfulness is an important dimension of fitness and it’s something you can do just about anywhere.  Even a quick 10-minute stretching session has significant benefits for your health.
